Birdy
Our Special Guest
Incomparable singer-songwriter Birdy, known for her characteristic and versatile voice—fragile yet powerful—represents airy, melancholic pop in its finest form.
Born in Hampshire, England to a writer and concert pianist parents, Birdy began writing her own songs at the age of seven – dreamily matching her voice to melodies on the family piano. Success would come at an early age and, from there, her voice and music would take her around the world and even lend themselves to soundtracks for popular commercials and films, including ‘The Hunger Games’ and Pixar’s ‘Brave’, earning her a Grammy Award nomination in 2012 with Mumford & Sons for “Learn Me Right”.
Her platinum debut single, a cover of “Skinny Love” released in 2011 was an international smash. Her eponymous debut album, released in November of the same year, was a major success, reaching number 1 on the charts in several countries, including Australia, Belgium, the Netherlands and France. Following her debut album, she released “Fire Within” (2013), which reached number 10 in the UK. With eleven original compositions, it became her biggest success in the US, reaching number 24 on the Billboard 200 chart. Her third album, “Beautiful Lies” (2016), continued this success, reaching the UK Top Five. In 2021, she released her fourth album, “Young Heart” and contributed the song “Quietly Yours” to the Netflix adaptation of the novel “Persuasion” in 2022.
Her starkly emotive, folk-inflected songs have evolved, over five albums, to her most recent release: “Portraits” (2023), an album showcasing an artist in full flight with a mastery of music expression and songwriting – while simultaneously channelling those who have inspired her, including PJ Harvey and Kate Bush.
Performing live at Art on Ice for the very first time, this chart-topping artist will bring her powerful songs and ethereal voice to our magical production in February 2025.
