Elladj Baldé
Second career launched
Elladj Baldé started figure skating at the age of six and achieved early success in national and international junior competitions, including the title at the 2014 Canadian Junior Championships. He later represented Canada at elite world and continental championships. Despite numerous good placings, he ended his competitive career in 2018.
Only then did he find his true purpose. Today, the former competitive athlete, who has roots in Guinea and Russia, is actively involved in the fight against classism and racism in figure skating. He is committed to promoting greater diversity in sport and aims to encourage and inspire young people from underrepresented social groups in particular with the Skate Global Foundation and the Art of Performance programme.
Baldé owes his big breakthrough to social media – the videos of his figure skating performances, which he often gives on frozen lakes in breathtaking natural surroundings, are liked, shared and celebrated by an audience of millions on TikTok and Instagram. He will be taking part in Art on Ice for the fourth time.
